Nursery School Lunches: $18
Adequate nutrition is critical for young children, fostering not only their physical growth but also their mental and educational development. Children under five years of age are highly vulnerable to malnourishment and in refugee camps may not get enough meals a day or adequately nourishing food. While children attending nursery schools usually bring lunches of rice from home, this is not sufficient to meet their nutritional needs and so in seven camps along the border, TBBC supports nursery school lunches administered by the Karen and Karenni Women’s Organisations. Supplementary foods of beans and AsiaMIX are provided with additional purchases of foods such as fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, eggs, and soymilk, for a daily cost of just three Thai baht per child (8 US cents). Women’s organisations and teachers are trained in nutritional education, programme planning, management and childcare.
TBBC’s nursery school lunch programme therefore not only improves the nutritional wellbeing of children, but it also encourages parents to send their children to school and educates the communities about nutrition and childcare.
Through a gift of $18, you will help TBBC provide a year of nursery school lunches for a refugee child from Burma, while also strengthening community capacity to address children’s nutritional needs.

Supplementary and Therapeutic Feeding: $68
TBBC conducts annual nutrition surveys of all the refugees living in the nine camps along the Thailand-Burma border. These surveys are conducted to identify the most vulnerable refugees so that targeted supplementary and therapeutic feeding programmes can be set up to address their needs. Special foods are provided such as additional rice, eggs, dried fish, beans, sugar, milk powder, vegetable oil, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as micronutrients such as B vitamins, iron and folate in AsiaMIX fortified flour.
Currently the programme targets malnourished children, pregnant and lactating women, tuberculosis and HIV patients, hospital in-patients, patients with chronic conditions and refugees who have just fled Burma—that need additional nutritional attention.
Your donation of $68 will give the gift of supplementary feeding to one vulnerable refugee in the border camps through TBBC’s supplementary and therapeutic feeding program for one year.
